December 2011 News

Dear SFA Families:

December is that wonderful time of year – time to await the birth of Jesus, time to be with family and friends, and time to spread the joy of Christmas with everyone you meet.

PROGRESS REPORTS will be distributed on Wednesday, December 7th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Terra Nova results for Grades 3-8 will also be distributed at this time. Parents are asked to enter through the main entrance on 46th Street. Together with your child’s report, you will have a good indication of their overall academic performance. “One of the strongest motivators for students is the opportunity to look back and see their progress. In this way, students can understand their learning goals, recognize their own skill level in relation to the goals, and take responsibility for reaching the goals. By involving students in their own success, they become a more active partner in their learning.” (Educational Leadership, Vol.63, No. 3).

FYI AND REMINDERS:

-Our Scholastic Book Fair brought in a profit of $961.87, Spirit Day - $3,691.00, Pumpkin Patch - $330.00 and Halloween Festival and Dance - $697.87.

-Tuition Raffle will be offered monthly and the winner will be drawn on the last Friday of every month.

-Santa Claus is coming to SFA for pictures on December 2nd. Please be sure to return your picture money promptly.

-Winter Uniforms went into effect on November 1st. Students have the choice of wearing brown or khaki pants or skirt (girls) and vest (girls for grades 6-7-8), all with collar shirt and tie. No shorts, skorts, and polo shirts are to be worn.

-Uniforms may only be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara. Khaki pants have the company label on the back.

-Write your child’s name on all belongings. This is very helpful when an item is lost or misplaced.

-Please keep your child home when he/she is not feeling well. Call the school office in the morning to report your child’s absence. At that time, you may request books and homework assignments to be sent home with a friend from the class or to be sent to the office for pickup at 2:30 p.m. Please send an absent note when your child returns to school or your child will receive an illegal absence on their attendance.

-Send in a note or call the school office before 12 noon when someone other than yourself will be picking up your child.

-For the safety of the children: no double parking, remain outside the school yard, and no dogs brought to school

-Helpful Tips for Parents: Monitor children’s use of the computer and pay close attention to the sites they are viewing.

Be sure to have your child eat breakfast before school, even if it is just a granola bar. Periodically check your child’s head for lice, this is the season.

-We are in need of a volunteer for door duty on Wednesday afternoons from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Our sincere wishes for a blessed and peace-filled Christmas. May each of you experience the love shared by the Holy Family within your family.

Ms. Stefano, Faculty, and Staff
