Welcome to the St. Francis of Assisi School Library Media Center! Our library, located in Astoria, N.Y., provides each child with a large selection of fun & educational reading material, as well as computer and Internet access.

The Media Center is located in rooms 204 and 205. Our collection currently includes over 11,000 books and audio books such as Holes, Charlotte's Web, Ramona's World,  Shiloh and more.  There are  7 computer workstations in the library featuring Internet and our library database catalog.  Room 204 has 27 new computer workstations all Internet connected.  Each room has an LCD Projector and Screen.

The St. Francis of Assisi Library Media Center serves students Pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Mrs. Carpanini and Mrs. Gozdziewski, the librarians, hold weekly scheduled classes. During these classes, story times are held, library and computer skills are taught, and books are checked out.

Students visit the Library Media Center every week on a scheduled basis, and other times as determined by their teacher. They are instructed in library and research skills integrated with computer technology and their core curriculum.

Library books at St. Francis of Assisi belong to all the students, faculty and staff. Students and teachers take turns checking out books. During the time the book is checked out, the user is responsible for the care of the book. If a book is lost or damaged during that time, a fee will be charged to compensate for that book.

A library is a place for caring and sharing. In order for everyone to be able to enjoy all of its resources, students must both check out AND return their books in a timely fashion. Doing so will help all of us enjoy the Thomas P. Campbell Library to its fullest.

Checking Out:

Students in grades 1-8 may take out two books during their scheduled class time.

Checking In:

For all students, all books are due in during their scheduled library class time. Students who do not return all of their books are not allowed to check out other books. Students may renew books. Renewed books must be brought to library class.

Special Note: If students are assigned a book report or class project, all students may check out books for the project, whether or not they have overdue books. Students keep these "assigned books" for the duration of their project. These books are due in on the next library class--after their assignment due date.

Lost and Damaged Books

Accidents happen. If students lose or damage books, they must pay for those books. The library assesses the following charges:

Paperback Books- the cover price of the book
Hardcover Books- the cover price of the book

If your children see you using the library & loving it – they will too.

If they get into the habit of using the library, maybe it will continue all their lives.

Some REMINDERS from the media center:

  • Encourage your child to read. Show an interest in the books your child brings home. Read with your child on a daily basis.
  • Encourage your child to take good care of library materials. Provide a safe place for him/her to keep library materials at home.
  • Help your child remember to return materials on time by checking the due date cards in the back pocket of books.
  • Use the public library with your child.
  • Provide close supervision when your child is using the Internet at home.
