Catholic Schools Week January 29th, 2012 – February 3rd, 2012
The idea of Catholic Schools Week began in 1974 as a joint project between the National Catholic Educational Association and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. To date, there have been 38 CSW celebrations in all – all expressed by a common theme or thread that highlights the many values that a Catholic Education inspires to develop in the young people in our schools. Some memorable themes that you may recall have been CS: The Good News in Education, CS: A Faith-Filled Future and CS: Dividends for Life. Last year, we at St. Francis of Assisi School, along with the other 7,000 Catholic Schools across the United States, celebrated with the theme, A+ for America: Catholic Schools. This year our 2012 school-year theme is CS: Faith, Academics, and Service. This particular theme was chosen to express what makes Catholic Schools stand out from other educational institutions. During our Opening Liturgy for CSW, our students presented three special offertory gifts - a cross, a school book, and a sign that read Teens for Jeans.

Dear Parents,
As the New Year begins, we are again given that unique opportunity for reflection and contemplation, as well as, the chance to grow and change. It’s that perfect time to make new resolutions and at least try to keep them. Of course, we can start with the usual, spend less, exercise more, and on almost everyone’s list – lose those seemingly impossible ten pounds. After that though, it’s time to think about what really matters most to us, to those we care about - those we teach. What do we need to do to make sure that we are living our best lives and

Dear Parents,
How can we, the Faculty of St. Francis of Assisi School, say thank you to all of you, our school parents and parish volunteers, who support us in so many countless ways. Just this past month, we held our Fall Festival, Spirit Day, Book Fair, Italian Heritage Day, Halloween Parties, and Prestige and Yankee Candle Sales. These events and fundraisers could never be accomplished without your generosity and boundless spirit. We deeply appreciate the time, energy, and commitment you give to SFA. Thank you for making our school the vibrant community it is! May the God-given spirit that you so warmly bring to us be with you and your families on this Thanksgiving Day.

Dear Parents,
How fortunate we are to live in New York during the Fall where we get to witness an annual spectacular display of color and beauty! Of course, it is “business as usual” for the trees, but for us, it is one of the “greatest shows on earth”. As in no other season, Fall is our yearly reminder of the diversity of nature and the glory of God. For all of us at SFA, there is no better season to recognize how all the members of our own school community blend together so richly just like the autumn leaves. Please join us as we celebrate our togetherness as followers of St. Francis of Assisi on Spirit Day, which will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 4th.
