For I can do everything through Christ

who strengthens me.” ~ Philippians 4:13

Dear St. Francis of Assisi Parents and Guardians,

It is an honor to welcome you to St. Francis of Assisi School. Being an educator for the past 29 years, I have always gotten excited about beginning a new school year. There is something very refreshing about the prospects of opening the school doors in September and seeing all of the students in their clean, crisp uniforms eager and ready to begin a new learning experience. Imagining all the wonders that the children will encounter during the course of the school year gives all of our Faculty and Staff members, reasons to surge forward in our pursuit of building a strong school of excellence. As education researcher, Maxine Greene, reminds us, “The child is a veritable image of becoming, poised to reach towards what is not yet, towards a growing that cannot be predetermined or prescribed. The potential is there, and it is up to us to create the learning environment in which it can prosper and succeed.” What a privilege it is to help a child, with all their God-given gifts and talents, grow and flourish!

We at St. Francis of Assisi School strive to build a “way of life” rooted in Christ and a Catholic vision that provides inspiration and identity to all the members of our school community. SFA believes in the dignity of all human beings and supports a Christian-laden environment that builds respectful relationships throughout our school.

During this 2012/2013 school year, we will be Raising Our Standards by translating the new Common Core State Standards into teaching practices. These new standards will be the inspiration for redesigning curriculum and instruction so that our students will be engaged in more cognitively challenging tasks and encouraged to more actively participate in their own learning. We will also teach so that our curriculum supports our students’ quests to develop their strengths by focusing on positive reinforcement and motivation strategies.

At SFA, our goals are to grow children of faith, avid learners, and socially-conscious individuals.

May God bless us as we build our school of leaders of tomorrow.

                                                                                           Sincerely,

                                                                                           Ms. Anne Stefano
