St. Francis of Assisi School:  Lights the Way

Catholic Schools Week is a long-standing tradition at St. Francis of Assisi School.  It is a time to remind our community of the vital contribution our school makes to the quality of education and life in the community.  It is a time to celebrate our parish school.  Please join us and participate in the activities and visit the classrooms during our Open Houses, take pride in the accomplishments of our students, and enjoy this opportunity.

Our thanks to Farenga Funeral Home for providing our souvenir bookmarks; be sure to take one home.

In Our Parish

Catholic Schools Light the Way in our Parish:  The traditional beginning of Catholic Schools’ Week is Sunday Mass when everyone in the parish gathers to celebrate the Eucharist in the glow of the altar candles. There is no better way to start this special week than by gathering to hear the good news of the Gospel and celebrate the Eucharist.  Please join us at our special School Mass at 11:00 a.m. as we honor our distinguished graduate, Sr. Theresa Gallagher, Class of 1967.  Following Mass, coffee will be served in the lower school. Enjoy our School’s Open House from 12:15 until 1:30 p.m.

In Our Community

Catholic Schools Light the Way in our Community:  Today is the day to celebrate our school’s connection with the community.  SFA benefits from the support and resources in the community, and the community benefits from the school’s contribution to excellence in education and quality of life.  Today’s prayer is the Prayer of Pope Paul VI. We invite our community to tour our school, visit our classrooms, and share part of the day with the students, faculty, and staff.  Classroom visits for all grades and classes during the hours of 10:25 – 11:10 a.m.

Catholic Schools Light the Way in our Nation:  Today SFA remembers the vital role that Catholic schools have played in American civic life during their 400-year history.  It is a day to draw attention to the importance of Catholic Schools and how they light the way in today’s world.  Today’s prayer is the Peace Prayer of  St. Francis of Assisi.  Join us at our Spelling Bee for Grade 4-6 at 9:35-10:30 in our lower school.  Classroom visits for all grades and classes during the hour of 8:45 - 9:30 a.m.

In Our Students

Catholic Schools Light the Way in our Students:  Today we focus on our students, the reason Catholic education exists.  Our students show how they “light the way” through their academic endeavors, their growth in their Catholic faith and their progress toward a values-filled life.  Today’s prayer is a Prayer for Students. This is their day to combine fun and celebration by dressing down and enjoying a special luncheon.

In Our Faculty, Staff, & Volunteers

Catholic Schools Light the Way in our Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers:  National Teacher Appreciation Day serves as a fitting end to Catholic Schools Week.  It’s a special day to honor those who devote their lives to educating students in an atmosphere of academic excellence and Catholic faith.  Today’s prayer is a Prayer for Selflessness.  We also recognize and thank the staff, administration, crossing guards, maintenance men, lunch aides, Home & School Board members, families and volunteers, who contribute so much to our school’s day to day operations.  All are invited to join us at our closing Catholic Schools Week Mass at 11 a.m.
