Dear SFA Families: Happy Christmas! May the holidays provide an opportunity to be with family and friends rejoicing in and with each other. As we look back at a busy December, we want to extend our gratitude to everyone who supported our efforts with our annual Christmas presentation. A special thank you is appropriately given to the entire faculty and student body and to all who helped in so many capacities: Mrs. Annunziata, Ms. Mullaney, Mrs. Nealis and Mrs. Katsaraos for stage and hall decoration; Mrs. Vorlicek, Mrs. Martucci, Robert Cavazzini, Danielle Gangi, Melissa Gangi, Roberto Marino, and Nicholas Mistretta for stage and scenery; Mrs. Bertuccio for ticket sales and video taping all performances; Mr. Mincone for providing the sound system; Ms. Liao for her music instruction with the children; Ms. Struleva, Parish Organist, for her music accompaniment; Mrs. Spampinato, Mr. and Mrs. Catoggio, and the many helpers for selling water, candy, raffles, and gift items during intermission; and last, but not least, Mr. Nagler for being the MC of the show. SPECIAL THANKS TO: -The Home & School Board members who helped with the Flea Market and all the volunteers for a great turnout that day bringing in $2,000.00 to the school. Our SFA table brought in $91.00. -Everyone who helped with the Christmas Boutique. We received a profit of $1,226.00. -The 4th grade for hosting the December Cake Sale with a profit of $148.00 -Mrs. Bertuccio for Pictures with Santa -SFA’s very own Santa, Mr. Lavelli -The Student Council for sponsoring Lunch for Champions and the toy drive for Hour Children -The SFA Carolers and their moderators, Mrs. Annunziata, Miss Mullaney, and Mrs. Nealis, for their beautiful caroling along Ditmars Blvd. and at the Tree Lighting Ceremony after the 5:00 p.m. Mass on December 20th. -Mrs. Mangialino and Mrs. Soltesz for preparing and serving hot chocolate to the group upon their return to school CONGRATULATIONS TO: -David V from Grade 6 for his participation in the Diocesan Intermediate Math Bee REMINDERS -World’s Finest Candy Sale begins on January 14th. Each student is responsible for selling 1 box of chocolate. -During the winter months when we have inclement weather, students should enter the schoolyard from the 21st Avenue entrance. The door of the school will be closed but unlocked. Late arrivals must enter through the front door of the school. If you see the gates on 21st Avenue closed, please use the front door entrance. -Double parking is prohibited for the safety of our children. Please respect the homeowners who are unable to get their cars out of the driveways because parents are blocking them. -Any messages pertaining to your child must be called in to the school office in the morning such as absence, homework pickup, etc. When your child is ill and requires homework and books, you can only request a pickup from a student in your child’s class or from the office. Homework and books cannot be sent to a different classroom. Students are encouraged to get the phone number of a classmate who would be willing to bring them home for them. -If your child receives a new vaccine, please have your doctor write the name and date on his letterhead. This should be given to Sister Maureen, our school nurse. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK JANUARY 25th to JANUARY 30th The theme this year is Catholic Schools Celebrate Service. This special week will begin with 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, January 25th followed by coffee in the Lower School. A tour of the school will be available. More detailed information along with a schedule for the week will be distributed in mid January. Our sincerest wishes that this New Year will be filled with God’s choicest blessings and peace in our world.
