Dear Families, VOCAB JAB
Congratulations to Lillian M., the winner of our
first Vocab Jab contest! Vocab Jab, a weekly class contest to see who can search
out, correctly spell, and properly define the biggest word containing the letter
of the week, is designed to get the students interested in building their
vocabularies and accustomed to using the dictionary on a regular basis.
Lillian's winning word, electroencephalograph, contained the letter of the week
- the letter A - and earned her a Homework Pass. Congratulations, Lillian! 6-201 PREPARES FOR THE CHRISTMAS SHOW!
Hallelujah! The Christmas holiday season is upon us! For this year's SFA Christmas Show, class 6-201 will be performing selected scenes from "The Nutcracker"...with a twist. "There's A Crack in the Nutcracker!" is 6-201's rocked out, modernized take on the Christmas classic set to music by the Invincible Czars. In preparation for their performance, 6-201 has been hard at work - like dedicated elves in Santa's workshop - creating original choreography, crafting bits of dialogue, trying their hand at costume design, and dreaming up artistic ideas for wild hair and makeup. The vast majority of 6-201's young ladies have experience with ballet, jazz, tap, or gymnastics, which will be evident in "There's A Crack in the Nutcracker's!" choreography. Similarly, all of the class's young gentlemen are adding their hip wit to their scenes. Look out for dance solos by Sabrina M. and Claudia M. as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Coffee from Arabia, respectively, as well as a hilarious, thoughtful performance from Vincenzo F. as The Mouse King. "There's A Crack in the Nutcracker!" hits the stage on December 17, 2008. Hope to see you there! ACTOR/DANCER/PRODUCER/CHOREOGRAPHER/DESIGNER...STUDENT? The students of 6-201 are multi-tasking! While hard at work on "There's A Crack in the Nutcracker!", 6-201 is studying the geography of the Middle East and the culture, government, and economy of Ancient Egypt, comparing Ancient Egypt to Mesopotamia, working on Unit 3 of their vocabulary workbooks, practicing how to locate and abbreviate passages of the Bible, and studying the Old Testament. They also better not forget to study Math and Science. Whew! Are these kids geniuses, or what?
Best Regards, |
